Nuno Espírito Santo Sacked by Nottingham Forest Amid Internal Tensions

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo with immediate effect, the club confirmed late Monday. The decision follows weeks of escalating tensions between the Portuguese manager and owner Evangelos Marinakis, marking a dramatic turn for the Premier League side. Nuno, who took charge in December 2023, led Forest to a remarkable seventh-place finish in the 2024/25 season, securing European football for the first time in over 30 years. His success earned him a contract extension this summer, but recent public statements revealed a fractured relationship with Marinakis.
The rift became apparent in August when Nuno openly criticized the club’s transfer strategy, labeling the squad “unbalanced” and unprepared for the new season. Despite a brief reconciliation attempt during the international break, the divide proved irreparable. Forest’s statement thanked Nuno for his contributions, particularly his pivotal role last season, but offered no further details on the split.
The club is now considering replacements, with Ange Postecoglou among the leading candidates. As Forest prepare for their Europa League campaign, the sudden managerial change raises questions about the team’s stability and future direction under Marinakis’ ownership.
