Inter Miami Signs Spanish Defender Sergio Reguilón on Free Transfer

Inter Miami CF, fresh off their historic 2025 MLS Cup victory, have made their first major move of the offseason by signing experienced Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón as a free agent. The 28-year-old defender joins the club on a contract running through December 2027, with an option to extend until December 2028.
Reguilón arrives to fill the void left by Jordi Alba, who retired following the club's triumphant MLS Cup final win over Vancouver Whitecaps on December 6. The former Tottenham Hotspur player, whose contract expired last summer, will occupy an international roster slot and brings a wealth of top-level experience to the Herons' backline.
A product of Real Madrid's academy, Reguilón has competed in LaLiga, the Premier League, and major European competitions including the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. His career highlights include winning the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020 and contributing to Real Madrid's FIFA Club World Cup success. He has also earned six caps for the Spanish national team.
Known for his attacking runs, pace, and crossing ability, Reguilón is expected to provide similar dynamism to Alba while adding defensive solidity. "It’s a very ambitious project, a winning club that is doing things the right way, and that’s what attracted me: coming here to keep winning and competing," Reguilón said in a club statement. The signing underscores Inter Miami's intent to build on their championship success as they prepare for the 2026 season, which includes a new stadium opener and potential international competitions.
