Mundo Deportivo: Yamal Receives 60% of Discriminatory Comments, More Than Double Vinícius

November 18 – Despite it now being 2025, racism has yet to be eradicated from football pitches, and La Liga is no exception, as multiple incidents in recent seasons have demonstrated.
However, racism is not confined to the stadiums; it transcends all boundaries and multiplies exponentially on social media. There, individuals can easily spread hate anonymously without facing consequences. Now, the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia has released a report on online racial hatred in Spanish football, and the player receiving the most racial abuse is not Vinícius Jr.
Although Vinícius once stated that "in Brazil, Spain is considered a racist country" and has continually faced such comments and insults, he does not top this grim "list of most targeted individuals." Accompanied by slurs such as "underage illegal immigrant" or "f****** n*****," Lamine Yamal has received 60% of the discriminatory comments – more than double the amount aimed at Real Madrid winger Vinícius (29%). Kylian Mbappé ranks third with 3%, while Nico Williams, Iñaki Williams, and Alejandro Balde each account for less than 2%.
Tomás Fernández, Director of the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia, discussed the insults directed at Yamal on the 'Carrusel Canalla' program: "We have observed this recently. The origin and skin color represented by this public figure have become a live target for haters, who attempt to attack and judge based on negative prejudices." The report also highlights that these regrettable incidents surge during high-tension events such as El Clásico, although origin and skin color should never justify racism under any circumstances.
The report also provided percentages of racist attacks on social media by club. In that ranking, Real Madrid is the primary victim, accounting for 34% of the total, slightly ahead of Barcelona at 32%. Other clubs trail far behind these two: Real Valladolid ranks third with 17%, followed by Valencia (8%), Athletic Club (6%), Real Sociedad (5%), and Atlético Madrid (4%).
